CAMP COUNTY, Texas – Troopers from the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) responded to a two-vehicle collision on US Highway 271 just south of the Titus County line on June 21, 2026, at around 2:32 PM. According to preliminary information, Gavin Brooks, a 16-year-old Mt. Pleasant resident, was driving Vehicle 1, a white Nissan Altima, north on US Highway 271.<\/p>\n
Simon Morales Gonzalez, a 48-year-old Tyler resident, was driving Vehicle 2, a Kenworth Truck Tractor Semi-trailer, south on US 271. Vehicle 1 struck Vehicle 2 head-on after veering into the southbound lane of US 271. Both Morgan Brooks, a 21-year-old Mt. Pleasant resident, and Gavin Brooks, the driver of Vehicle 1, were declared dead at the scene. Due to his injuries, the driver of Vehicle 2 was taken to a nearby hospital.<\/p>\n
