According to our news partner KETK, Hene, who attended most of the meeting while coordinating with council members to avoid creating a quorum, said the gathering offered an important opportunity to hear directly from residents. <\/p>\n
\u201cIt was a good opportunity for us to listen and hear feedback, not just from the people proposing the project, but also from the people who live in that neighborhood,\u201d Hene said.<\/p>\n
Hene emphasized that the proposal being discussed involves a Bitcoin mining facility, not a traditional data center.<\/p>\n
While data centers often prompt concerns about water and electricity consumption, Hene said the city is already considering safeguards for future large-scale industrial projects. Potential measures could include zoning requirements, infrastructure planning and protections for local utility resources.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have to be mindful of our water source,\u201d Hene noted, adding that the city can take steps to protect residents from potential noise or air pollution associated with industrial operations.<\/p>\n
Hene noted that he has not held discussions with developers regarding any such projects. For now, he said, his focus remains on listening to residents and ensuring their concerns are reflected in the city\u2019s decision-making process.<\/p>\n
