ANGELINA COUNTY — A Lufkin man received an 8-year prison sentence on Tuesday after pleading guilty to two counts of wire fraud, in which he was accused of acquiring over $9 million. According to our news partner KETK,\u00a0Matthew Jess Thrash reportedly had more than 100 victims, from whom he defrauded millions through various fraudulent activities, including schemes related to sports investments.<\/p>\n
According to the U.S. Attorney\u2019s Office for the Eastern District of Texas, Thrash used these funds for gambling, personal expenses and to repay other victims in an effort to evade detection.<\/p>\n
On Tuesday, Thrash was sentenced to 97 months in prison and is ordered to pay in restitution $8,100,024.<\/p>\n
Some of Thrash\u2019s schemes included running a sports memorabilia store in Las Vegas, where he allegedly solicited and received money from individuals who believed they were investing in the store until it was revealed that he never owned a sports memorabilia store.<\/p>\n
Thrash also reportedly provided multiple individuals with stock purchase agreements for shares in a cannabis dispensary that showed Thrash was acting on behalf of TK Investments with a business address in Lufkin.
