\u201cThe SKYWARN\u00a0presentation\u00a0covers severe thunderstorm characteristics, cloud formations, identifying the different threats associated with severe storms, how to report and basic weather safety,\u201d NWS said.<\/p>\n
This year NWS meteorologist will be going to the following East Texas locations to conduct these SKYWARN training classes.

Gilmer \u2014 Jan. 8, 2026, at 7 p.m. at the Upshur County Electrical Coop Auditorium, 1200 W. Tyler St. The National Weather Service (NWS) SKYWARN program was started in the 1970\u2019s and has helped train between 350,000 and 400,000 storm spotter volunteers across the United States.
