\"\"ALBA \u2014 Alba-Golden ISD has announced its new regulations after Senate Bill 8, also known as \u201cBathroom Bill,\u201d went into effect on Dec. 4. According to our news partner KETK, to meet these new regulations, the school district said locker rooms will be designated \u201cNON-PRIVATE\u201d during specific times: 15 minutes before the start of pregame activities, 8 minutes during halftime, 10 minutes after the conclusion of a game and 20 minutes after the conclusion of a practice.<\/p>\n

The school district stated that this will enable coaches to manage their responsibilities with teams, such as during pregame, halftime and postgame meetings, while respecting students\u2019 privacy.<\/p>\n

Commonly referred to as the Texas Women\u2019s Privacy Act or the \u201cBathroom Bill,\u201d Senate Bill 8 seeks to limit transgender individuals\u2019 access to specific restrooms in the state.<\/p>\n

The legislation requires that multi-occupancy restrooms, locker rooms, showers and changing rooms in government offices, K-12 schools, public universities and state agencies be designated by a person\u2019s biological sex assigned at birth rather than their gender identity.<\/p>\n

The law allows for certain exemptions regarding restroom access for individuals whose gender identity does not match the sex assigned to them at birth. These exemptions include:<\/p>\n

Medical personnel providing assistance
\n Staff members cleaning or maintaining the facilities
\n Law enforcement officials
\n Individuals accompanying someone who requires assistance
\n Children aged 9 or younger who are with an adult.<\/p>\n

Penalties for not following Senate Bill 8<\/p>\n

Individuals are expected not to be penalized; instead, the institution that owns the facility where the violation occurred can be fined and sued.<\/p>\n

An institution will have three days to correct the violation, which can be resolved by modifying policies or signage before any investigation begins. If an institution continues to violate the law, it will be fined $25,000 for the first instance and $125,000 for each subsequent violation per day.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
