TYLER — Candidates begin filing for office as the 2012 election cycle gets under way. Republican Matt Schaefer, Tyler, officially filed Monday afternoon for a place on the ballot for Texas House of Representatives, District 6, currently held by Leo Berman, Tyler. Schaefer said he has obtained over 500 signatures from registered voters in the district. He said one of the issues that top his priority list is the “exploding cost” of health care in the form of Medicaid and what that’s doing to the state budget.
