SULPHUR SPRINGS \u2013 The City of Sulphur Springs will soon be home to more than 1,600 acres of artificial intelligence data centers. MSB Global broke ground on their massive facility in June, they\u2019re planning to construct 30 AI data center buildings by 2028. The new centers will host servers for AI training while also offering other resources like large language model training and cloud computing. The project has prompted growing concerns in Sulphur Springs with several local shop owners like Sharon Feldt saying they know very little about the data centers.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t know enough about what they are doing out there. I wish we had been able to vote on this,\u201d Feldt said. <\/p>\n
A major concern of Sulphur Spring residents is protecting their water supply, which would be used to cool the servers running in the planned data centers. Sulphur Springs City Manager Marc Maxwell attempted to reduce these concerns by stating that the plant will use alternative methods for more efficient cooling like dielectric fluid tubs and emersion cooling.<\/p>\n
Maxwell also stated that the new plant is expected to bring in 1,500 new jobs to East Texas.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s a lot to be excited about, tiny to be worried about,\u201d Maxwell said. \u201cEvery new job means a new rooftop, a house somewhere.\u201d<\/p>\n
