Near the end of June, the Tatum Police Department became aware of seven burglary cases, with six incidents occurring at the Tatum baseball park and another one within city limits. The cases were identified as organized criminal activity.<\/p>\n
On July 2, members of the Tatum Police Department were notified of a woman who had driven through a Vera Bank in Lufkin and had allegedly withdrawn several thousand dollars from a victim\u2019s bank account. Although officials obtained video from the bank, they were unable to identify the suspect. They requested assistance from the Texas Department of Public Safety, but were also unable to identify the suspect because her face was not fully visible in the camera footage from the bank.<\/p>\n
Later in July, two suspects were detained in DeSoto during a traffic stop. During the stop, one of the suspects allegedly provided officers with a fake name and date of birth. Multiple stolen identifications, checkbooks and banking information were discovered, which belonged to the victims of the Tatum baseball park burglaries.<\/p>\n
Following the traffic stop, the Tatum Police Department submitted a photograph of the suspect who had given officers a false name to the Intelligence and Counterterrorism Division and obtained a complete criminal history of the suspect.<\/p>\n
On July 15, it was reported that the woman who had previously withdrawn several thousand dollars at a Vera Bank in Lufkin attempted to do the same thing at a Vera Bank located in Mexia. Officers were once again unable to identify the woman; however, after posting a photo of her on Facebook and asking for help identifying her, they received several messages from individuals and police departments stating that she was a suspect in cases ranging across the eastern half of Texas.<\/p>\n
\u201cOne victim in particular, from near Austin, provided our officer with a perfect facial photograph,\u201d the department said. \u201cThis individual had been a victim of theft, and she had lost several thousand dollars in the same manner as our victims in Tatum.\u201d<\/p>\n
The police department said that they will be writing a probable cause affidavit for the three suspects on engaging in organized criminal activity, identity theft, burglary of a vehicle and forgery. On Monday, officials identified the three suspects as Cecil Ruffin, Amanda Martin, and Brittney Ramkelawan.<\/p>\n
The department said the cases will be filed with the Rusk County District Attorney\u2019s Office for prosecution.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
