The standoff began after a series of incidents involving 42-year-old Charles Roman Taylor over the past several days, according to the Lufkin Police Department. Officers say Taylor called 911 more than 10 times starting around 4 a.m. Friday, speaking incoherently and eventually threatening to kill officers who responded to his home.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen he stepped out the front door, officers tried to calm him and take him into custody on outstanding warrants,\u201d Lufkin PD said. \u201cOfficers deployed a taser, but that did not immobilize Taylor, and he went back inside.\u201d

Police say Taylor then began throwing objects at officers, including metal water bottles, a charcoal grill, and glass items. SWAT was called in, and negotiators used a loudspeaker to order Taylor to surrender. When he refused, CS gas was deployed, prompting Taylor to come out and lay down on the porch, where he was taken into custody.<\/p>\n
This wasn\u2019t the first encounter police had with Taylor. Three days earlier, officers responded to a 911 call where a man, later identified as Taylor, allegedly threatened to kill someone with a knife and a rock. Neighbors also reported that Taylor had harassed a lawn care worker and threatened to kill a neighbor and her family.<\/p>\n
Authorities said Taylor has been charged with silent abusive calls to 911, terroristic threat against a peace officer or judge, aggravated assault against a public servant, evading arrest or detention, criminal mischief, public intoxication, an outstanding warrant, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
