According to our news partner KETK, the expansion is developing more opportunities for the center to combat financial crimes related to card skimmers, fuel theft and payment fraud.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe more we delve into this, it\u2019s kind of like a Pandora\u2019s Box,\u201d Texas Financial Crimes Intelligence Center Director Adam Colby said. \u201cThe more energy we put into the fight, the more we uncover, and it just seems to be nonstop.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In Senate Bill One, Texas lawmakers quadrupled the center\u2019s funding, allowing for major expansion across the state and taking their team from 15 people to 41.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe legislature saw fit to more than double our staff and quadruple our budget in order to put a lot more people on board,\u201d Colby said.<\/p>\n<p>Texas lawmakers also passed several other bills to assist in the fight against financial crimes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSB 2371 creates an oversight for all types of skimming and payment terminals, skimming devices,\u201d Colby said.<\/p>\n<p>Senate Bill 1499 reclassifies check fraud and electronic fund transfers as fraud.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSB 1497, so that exempts skimming devices from having to obtain a search warrant to download,\u201d Colby said.<\/p>\n<p>Several other bills were approved as well that will help remove barriers from the Texas Financial Crimes Intelligence Center so they can pinpoint their focus on protecting Texans and stopping even more financial crimes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur mission is to be the primary repository for intelligence related to organized financial crime in the state of Texas, and to prevent as much crime as we can,\u201d Colby said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>TYLER &#8212; During this year\u2019s legislative session, Texas lawmakers created several new laws to amplify the fight against financial crimes, including the expansion of the Texas Financial Crimes Intelligence Center.
