Local shop owners who sell THC products said they breathed a sigh of relief with their customers after learning about the governor\u2019s decision.<\/p>\n
\u201cI knew that doing the right thing, would be done,\u201d Owner of CBD American Shaman, Morris Anderson said.” Governor Abbott is doing the right thing, and we definitely appreciate it.”<\/p>\n
Anderson added that he\u2019s encouraged by the governor\u2019s veto of Senate Bill 3, and the decision is giving some comfort to customers worried about a potential ban.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a relief, a weight lifted because it\u2019s customers that come through here, they\u2019re dealing with a lot…I know my customers here appreciate them, and this world will appreciate it,\u201d Anderson said.<\/p>\n
Several East Texas lawmakers are supporting the governor\u2019s veto while also calling on regulations to protect Texans. State Representative Jay Dean from Longview posted his reaction to the veto on social media.<\/p>\n
\u201cLet be perfectly clear though \u2013 I do support regulating the products,\u201d Dean said. \u201cWe saw way too many products packaged to look like candy that were clearly being marketed to children. That\u2019s unacceptable and irresponsible. We would not tolerate from the alcohol industry, and we shouldn\u2019t here either. Regulation is acceptable. Prohibition is not.\u201d<\/p>\n
State Senator Bryan Hughes of Mineola said his goals going into the special session in July is safeguarding children from these products.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think the goal is to find a way to deal with this that\u2019s going to go into effect, not be tied up in court,\u201d State Senator Bryan Hughes said. \u201cOur number one goal is to protect children, make sure children aren’t getting access to these products.\u201d<\/p>\n
That\u2019s something that Lieutenant Governor Patrick echoed in a press conference Monday, when he delivered a fiery response to the governor\u2019s late-night veto.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re not Colorado and we\u2019re not Oregon, and we\u2019re not Washington state. We\u2019re Texas, and I will not sign a bill that legalizes marijuana in Texas,\u201d Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick said. <\/p>\n
