According to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ), 35-year-old Blaine Milam of Gregg County is set to be executed on September 25 for his involvement in the murder of his girlfriend\u2019s 13-month-daughter during what they described as an \u201cexorcism.\u201d<\/p>\n
On Dec. 2, 2008 in Rusk County, Milam and his girlfriend, Jessica Carson murdered the infant by using a hammer to beat her. They also attest to biting her on the chest, arms, throat, feet and lower back. In confession, the couple told authorities that they were trying to \u201cbeat the demons out\u201d of the baby.<\/p>\n
On June 11, 2010, at only 20-years-old, Milam was found guilty of capital murder and sentenced to die. Carson received a life sentence without the possibility of parole.<\/p>\n
In early 2019, Milam was slated to be executed for his crimes, but avoided the sentence after the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals stayed his execution the day before it was scheduled. The decision came after his lawyers argued that Milam was intellectually disabled, and therefore ineligible for execution.<\/p>\n
In January of 2021, the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals granted again a stay of execution for Milam to review intellectual disability claims. <\/p>\n
Now, after sitting on death row for almost 15 years, Milam is set to be executed on September 25. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
