According to the Nacogdoches Police Department, on Dec. 29, 2023 a officer attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 1700 block of S. Fredonia and South Street when a passenger shot multiple rounds at the officer before the vehicle fled the scene.<\/p>\n
Officials said that the officer returned fire and at least one bullet from the passenger struck the officer\u2019s patrol car.<\/p>\n
On Friday, Alexander Rios, 23, of Nacogdoches, pleaded guilty to aggravated assault of a public servant. Rios also acknowledged his involvement in an unrelated aggravated assault that happened on May 12, 2023 in the 2500 block of South Street in Nacogdoches.<\/p>\n
Rios was sentenced to 50 years in prison, marking the second sentencing related to the officer\u2019s shooting.<\/p>\n
