\"\"TYLER – Alexander Scott has been named the new director of bands and an
\nassistant professor of music at The University of Texas at Tyler. As director of bands, Scott will
\noversee UT Tyler\u2019s bands including the Wind Ensemble and the newly formed Concert Band.
\nHe comes to UT Tyler from the University of Michigan, where he served as a graduate student
\ninstructor.<\/p>\n

\u201cMr. Scott is an experienced and award-winning educator in a diverse range of levels, having
\nworked at the secondary level in public schools as well as the collegiate level,\u201d said Dr. Sarah
\nRoberts, UT Tyler professor and School of Performing Arts director. \u201cWe are excited to have him
\njoin the School of Performing Arts. Our students will greatly benefit from his expertise and
\nleadership.\u201d
\nScott taught for nine years in Maryland public schools. For seven years, he served as music
\ndepartment chair and director of instrumental music at Meade Senior High School in Fort Meade,
\nMaryland, where he was responsible for conducting diverse music ensembles and bands, while also
\nteaching various music and guitar courses.
\nDuring his time at that school, Scott\u2019s bands and orchestras consistently earned excellent and
\nsuperior ratings at county and state adjudication festivals, and his marching band earned second
\nplace at the 2018 U.S. Bands Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships. He was a semifinalist for Music
\nand Arts\u2019 national \u201cMusic Educator of the Year\u201d award in 2016 and the Maryland winner for School
\nBand and Orchestra Magazine\u2019s \u201c50 Directors Who Make a Difference\u201d award in 2018. Scott\u2019s
\ndepartmental leadership was twice recognized by the National Association of Music Merchants with
\na \u201cBest Communities in Music Education\u201d designation in 2018 and 2019.
\nHis memberships include the College Band Directors National Association, World Association for
\nSymphonic Bands and Ensembles, National Association for Music Education and the Maryland
\nMusic Educators Association.
\nScott holds a bachelor\u2019s degree in music education and two master\u2019s degrees in music education
\nand instrumental conducting, respectively. He is currently pursuing a doctoral degree.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
