Ambassador Gary Doer said Wednesday the proposed pipeline meets U.S. energy security needs, and that it passes all U.S. State Department environmental criteria.<\/p>\n<p>Calgary-based TransCanada&#8217;s proposed Keystone XL pipeline faces widespread opposition from environmentalists who fear it will leak and contaminate the Ogallala aquifer, which supplies drinking and irrigation water to eight states.
