Since the UA<br \/>\nis a state-funded public charter school, there is no student tuition.<br \/>\nThe campus was recently named a 2022-23 Project Lead The Way Distinguished School, and the<br \/>\ndistrict was also named a 2022-23 PLTW Distinguished District for the third consecutive year. UT<br \/>\nTyler UA is one of just 17 PLTW districts nationwide and the only one in Texas to receive such<br \/>\nrecognition this year.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>This recognition honors districts committed to STEM education while increasing student access,<br \/>\nengagement and achievement in their PLTW pathway programs in computer science, engineering<br \/>\nand\/or biomedical science.<br \/>\n\u00e2\u20ac\u0153The UA is unique in that students have a focused STEM curriculum starting in kindergarten and<br \/>\nculminating in our biomedical and engineering pathways in high school,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d said Dr. Jo Ann Simmons,<br \/>\nUA superintendent. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Our innovative project-based instruction coupled with our STEM pathways<br \/>\nlead to lucrative careers.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<br \/>\nPLTW pathways also give the UA a competitive edge, Simmons said, noting that UA\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s pathways are<br \/>\naligned with UT Tyler STEM majors, allowing for a seamless K-16 STEM education.<br \/>\nRecent studies show that students who participate in PLTW outperform their peers in school, are<br \/>\nbetter prepared for post-secondary studies and are more likely to consider STEM careers compared<br \/>\nto their non-PLTW peers, according to Simmons. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Students find PLTW programs relevant, inspiring,<br \/>\nengaging and foundational to their future success,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d she added.<br \/>\nStudents at the end of their UA education can earn 42 dual-credit hours through UT Tyler at no cost.<br \/>\n\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Upon enrolling in dual credit, UA students become UT Tyler students, so the transition to the<br \/>\nuniversity is seamless,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Simmons said. UA dual credit programs aligned to UT Tyler STEM degrees<br \/>\ninclude biology, chemistry, engineering, kinesiology, medicine, nursing, pharmacy and STEM<br \/>\neducation.<br \/>\nIn addition to academics, UA students can participate in extracurricular activities such as the<br \/>\nPalestine Rotary Club Academic Scholars Competition, Texas University Interscholastic League,<br \/>\nModel United Nations and the UT Tyler East Texas High School Idea Challenge. They can also work<br \/>\nwith UT Tyler professors in research. Some recent research projects include the NASA GLOBE Air<br \/>\nQuality Campaign (high school) and NASA Student Research Symposium (grades 5-12).<br \/>\n\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Although the school is STEM focused, students receive a comprehensive core subject preparation<br \/>\nincluding English language arts, fine arts, social studies, history, government and physical<br \/>\neducation,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d she added.<br \/>\nInterested parents\/guardians enrolling their child are encouraged to visit the campus, teachers and<br \/>\ncampus director Ummi (oo-me) Bodede (Bo-day-day).
