\"\"WASHINGTON, D.C. — East Texas Congressman Louie Gohmert has released a statement in response to his comments on the changing of Earth and Moon’s orbits during a Natural Resources Subcommittee hearing. According to Gohmert, “One of the great things about east Texas is the vast resource of common sense, including an understanding of sarcasm. President Biden indicated that he wants to be part of international climate deals, which actually hamstring our economy, send money from the US to other countries, and all while pollution continues to pour out of China and India unabated. The climate has never stopped changing and will not stop changing, but the legitimate question is whether or not actions of humanity truly cause ongoing changes. <\/p>\n

“Having been advised by the immediate past director of NASA that the moon\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s orbit around earth is changing slightly, as is the orbit of the earth around the sun, it seems to be a significant amount of arrogance by us to think we can prevent the orbit of either earth or moon from varying at this time with our current abilities. According to some articles on the subject, we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re told the orbits have been changing for millions of years. Now that truly does have to have an effect on our climate.<\/p>\n

“We\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve also been advised that the icecaps have continued to melt on Mars, raising some questions as to what activity of what country on Earth is causing Mars to warm. For anyone who did not pick up on sarcasm as an advanced method of pointing out significant irony, please know that I do not anticipate that there is any agency or department of the United States government that is going to be correcting any changes in Earth\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s orbit or melting icecaps on Mars any time soon. <\/p>\n

“We need to be good stewards with the planet we are on, which is why most of us are very supportive of leaving the environment cleaner than we found it. But, some folks not getting my east Texas sarcasm have allowed the news of changing orbits to become better known. Glad I could cause the issue to become a matter of discussion.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n

During the hearing, Gohmert said he was informed that the moon’s and Earth’s orbits are changing slightly. Gohmert then said, “We know there’s been…significant solar flare activities. And so is there anything that the national Forest Service or BLM [Bureau of Land Management] can do to…change the course of the moon’s orbit or the Earth’s orbit around the sun?
