Republican East Texas state Senator Bryan Hughes praises the bill, arguing that citizens in Texas support law enforcement and know the dangers of defunding police. Hughes discussed what happened to one city that attempted it on “Fox and Friends.” He says, “The city of Austin voted to cut its police budget by about 1\/3…and what’s happened? A spike in violent crime. Murders are up — the highest spike in 20 years.
