\nTYLER — The City of Tyler is currently accepting applications from community members to serve on City boards and commissions. The deadline to apply is Aug. 5, and appointments will be made by the City Council at its Aug. 24 meeting. Persons who are appointed to serve on a City of Tyler board or commission will serve voluntarily, without pay, for a two-year term. The boards and commissions include:<\/p>\n

Regular Boards (Boards that meet monthly or bi-monthly)<\/p>\n

Airport Advisory Board
\nHistorical Preservation Board
\nKeep Tyler Beautiful Board
\nLibrary Board
\nNeighborhood Revitalization Board
\nOne-Half Cent Sales Tax Board
\nParks Board
\nPlanning and Zoning Commission
\nNorth East Texas Public Health District Board
\nTraffic Safety Board<\/p>\n

Periodic Boards (Boards that meet only as needed)<\/p>\n

Board of Adjustment (Zoning)
\nCivil Service Commission
\nConstruction Board of Adjustments
\nDisabilities Issue Review Board
\nHealth Facilities Development Corp.
\nIndustrial Development Corp.<\/p>\n

To serve on a board or commission, applicants must reside inside the City limits and should not have any delinquent City taxes, City utilities or other City assessments. In addition, they must not have any pending claims or claim against the City. There may be additional requirements for some board positions.
\n\u201cThis is a perfect way for citizens to plug in and get involved in shaping our community,\u201d said Tyler Mayor Barbara Bass. \u201cThe City\u2019s boards and commissions play a vital role in making recommendations to City Council.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBoards and Commissions fulfill an important role in City government by evaluating issues which affect our community and making recommendations to the Council for needed action,\u201d said City Manager Mark McDaniel. \u201cIt is important that we get vacancies on the boards filled.\u201d Anyone interested in serving can go to http:\/\/www.cityoftyler.org<\/a> to complete an application online.
