LONGVIEW — According to a briefing aired by our news partner KETK on Tuesday, Gregg County Judge Bill Stoudt has issued a “Voluntary Shelter in Place Order.” The Judge announced on Tuesday afternoon that although there has only been 1 confirmed in the case, “limiting exposure to COVID-19 is the key to beating this.” Longview Mayor Andy Mack said, “Public Transportation will continue to run, but we ask people to continue to observe social distancing. We are keeping transportation running for essential personnell.”
Mayor Mack continued, “We want to keep business open, we need to keep our businesses open. This is not about stopping commerce, it’s about stopping the virus.” Gregg County Health Department’s Dr. Johnny Brown reminded residents to call ahead, “Do not just show up, call your primary physician, or the E.R. for their direction.” Brown continued, “I want to echo what Dr. Mack said, “getting outside is so helpful, keep your distance obviously, but some may not be aware but this virus, like most does not do well in the heat.” The county said they will remain in the “Voluntary Shelter in Place” as long as is necessary.
