Longview Invites Residents to Opt-In for AlertsLONGVIEW — The mass emergency notification system for the City of Longview is changing, and residents that want to stay informed of severe weather and emergency situations impacting the area, will need to sign up. On Saturday the city will replace the formerly used CodeRED system and begin using Smart911 by RAVE Mobile Safety. If residents had an account in the old system they will need to create a new account through Smart911.

The service is offered in partnership with the East Texas Council of Governments, which provides access to the system for many cities and counties throughout the region. Account users may sign up for free to receive phone call, text, or email alerts. In addition, users have the option to provide supplementary information like medical conditions, pet information, house description, and more, which could be helpful to first responders during an emergency situation. Contact the city for more details, or register by clicking the link. https://www.longviewtexas.gov/2864/Emergency-Alerts.
