Tyler Neighborhood Services to Open Housing Choice Voucher Program Waiting List

TYLER — The City of Tyler Housing Agency will be taking applications online for its Housing Choice Voucher program waiting list on Monday, Dec. 30 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Housing Choice Voucher program is the federal government’s primary program for very low-income families to lease or purchase privately-owned rental housing. Priority will be given to applicants who live or work in Smith County, are elderly and/or disabled head of household, spouse and/or co-head individuals- ages 62 and older.

In addition, Veterans who have been honorably discharged and have the proper documentation to validate Veteran status may also apply. Applications must be submitted online at http://www.waitlistcheck.com/TX165-2376. No applications will be provided at the Neighborhood Services Office. Status information regarding placement on the list will be available online shortly after the closing date. Instructions regarding status information are provided during the online application process. Due to limited funding availability, applications will be selected and ordered using a computer-generated random system for 150 available slots. Not all applicants will be placed on the waiting list. By randomly selecting the applications received for placement on the waiting list, the process will ensure all applicants will have an equal opportunity. The time and date of receipt of the online application does not determine whether an application will be selected for the waiting list.

To ensure availability and access to the online system, the City of Tyler Housing Agency has collaborated with the organizations listed below. These locations will have workstations for applicants who do not have internet access. Additionally, Neighborhood Services staff and volunteers will be present at these locations to assist those who need help with the online process.

*An active Library card is not required for patrons who are visiting the Library for the sole purpose of completing the online Housing Choice Voucher Program application. Applicants will need to visit the front desk to receive a one-day pass from Library personnel.
