RUSK — On Tuesday, Texas Health and Human Services Executive Commissioner Dr. Courtney N. Phillips, along with state and local officials broke ground on a $200 million composition project at Rusk State Hospital. HHS will construct a new 225,000-square-foot patient complex that includes a 100-bed non-maximum security unit in addition to a 100-bed maximum security unit.
This venture also includes a new administrative building. The new build at Rusk State Hospital is part of a $745 million investment that Texas is pumping into several state psychiatric hospitals. This undertaking should create several hundred jobs locally. The new buildings will be located on the existing 623-acre campus. Construction is expected to be completed in 2024. Rusk State Hospital will continue to serve patients while construction is ongoing.
