Smith County Burn Ban Remains in EffectTYLER — As hot, dry conditions persist, Smith County remains under an outdoor burning ban. The number of grass fires in the county has gone down since the Commissioners Court issued the ban three weeks ago, but there have been 85 reports of illegal burns since then. Fire Marshal Jay Brooks gave an update to the Commissioners Court on Tuesday, saying many warnings have been given but his office is now issuing citations. Brooks says most people who have been caught burning illegally claim they didn’t know about the burn ban. You can go to the News section at http://www.smith-county.com for more information.
