Green Acres Follows Up on Debt Forgiveness Effort

Posted/updated on: September 10, 2019 at 11:57 am

TYLER — Now that it’s forgiven medical debt for over 4,900 East Texas families, Green Acres Baptist Church wants to make sure the word gets out. The church has sent out an advisory that some recipients of their forgiveness letters may unwittingly dispose of the letters, thinking they’re solicitations or junk mail. According to the church, “While these recipients will still get their medical debt forgiven, they may not know about it for 3-6 months until their credit score is reviewed to reveal the credit to their accounts. In the interim those people may still be laboring under the misconception that their credit score is the same and consequently delay needed additional credit available to them for medical or personal needs.”

Forgiveness recipients are encouraged “to LOOK FOR AND NOT DISPOSE OF THE YELLOW ENVELOPE with the ‘Good News – GABC’ branded logo next to the RIP Medical Debt return address.” The recipient list includes residents of Arp, Bullard, Flint, Overton, Troup, Tyler, and Whitehouse. The forgiveness initiative was exercised through the nonprofit RIP Medical Debt. The church says the total amount forgiven was $4.25 million dollars, an average of $858.10 per family.
