TYLER — Tyler Junior College. It’s a name that has stood for over 90 years. and for some it’s a legacy. But others claim the name is a burden. According to our news partner KETK, a meeting was held on campus Thursday night to hear both sides of the argument. Former and current students and staff weighed in. According to one individual, “I think that changing the name and dropping the “Junior” is an important leap in this institutions’ future.” Another added, “If you care at all about this institution and its students I urge you to please be for the name change.”
On the other side of the argument, one attendee said, “We’re going to be celebrating (the college’s) 100th anniversary in just a few years, and it’d be nice to know Tyler Junior College is still around.” Yet another person remarked, “I don’t know what the future holds, I don’t know how much longer I have Tyler Junior College. The name can never be taken away from me.” Thursday night’s meeting was a discussion only. No decision has been made.
