Steven Seth Rosewell, 32, of Cookville, changed his plea to guilty prior to his trial in Gilmer Tuesday morning. He asked for the jury to set his punishment. The panel deliberated about 30 minutes before sentencing him to 15 years in prison for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
The shooting occurred in November 2016. He refused to take the woman home and instead continued driving through Titus, Upshur and Gregg Counties. When she tried to get out of the vehicle in Upshur County, he shot her. He continued to drive around, with her in his car, until he ran out of gas. After getting gas, he continued to drive around until he finally decided to take her to Longview Regional Hospital, where he dropped her off on the sidewalk, unattended and without help.
Sheriff’s Deputies later located Rosewell barricaded in his Cookville home. Being surrounded by multiple deputies, Rosewell eventually came out of the residence and was arrested without incident.
