Fatal Area Accidents
Posted/updated on: October 11, 2018 at 12:08 pmEAST TEXAS – Separate area accidents have left three persons dead. A Tyler man has been killed in a one vehicle accident in Gregg County. Dead at the scene was Javier Altamirano Olvera, 55. He was heading east on Interstate Highway 20 when he hit a dog in the road. He then swerved and left the road, sliding sideways and then rolling down an embankment. His pickup came to rest upside down in the south side bar ditch. The accident happened shortly before 5:45 Tuesday afternoon about a mile north of Kilgore.
A two vehicle accident in Upshur County has left one person dead. It occurred just before 3:30 Tuesday afternoon on U.S. Highway 271, seven miles north of Gilmer. Dead at the scene was Johnny Allen Shrewsbury, 76, of Gilmer. The Department of Public Safety reports the victim’s van drifted over the double yellow line and was hit by an oncoming tractor trailer rig. The Missouri trucker was not injured.
A woman has been killed in a one vehicle accident in Harrison County. Dead at the scene was Brandi Mashai Kirkwood, 35, of Tatum. The Department of Public Safety reports her car hydroplaned on the wet roadway and slid into the oncoming lane of traffic where she was hit by a tractor trailer rig. The truck’s driver was treated at the scene for minor injuries. The accident happened just before 7:00 Tuesday night on State Highway 43, nine miles south of Marshall.
