KILGORE — The Kilgore College Rangerettes mourn the loss of a pioneer. 94-year-old Virginia Gay Culp appeared with the Rangerettes in their very first performance at a Kilgore College football game in 1940. Former Rangerette Mazie Jamison says it was women like Culp who made it possible for the Rangerettes to become the organization they are today. Jamison says, “I always saw a twinkle in her eye, like she was having more fun than anybody else in the whole world.” Since that first performance, the Rangerettes have performed in places like New York City, Tokyo, and Paris — and this week, they’re in Switzerland.
