A Historic Gift for Wiley College

MARSHALL – Wiley College at Marshall has received a large, unrestricted gift. When Gene and school trustee Patsy Ponder visited the campus to say goodbye to school president Dr. Haywood L. Strickland, who is retiring in June, they had a check in hand. Their gift is the largest gift by an individual in the school’s 145 year history. The couple presented the school $2 million. It was their way of honoring Strickland and his 18 years of service to the school as well as to the community and to the United Methodist Church.
