Smith County Scam Investigated

TYLER – The jury duty scam surfaces in Smith County. The sheriff’s Department has received several complaints recently that the scam has targeted residents. They have received a call saying they are named in a warrant for missing jury duty. The caller even uses names of current Smith County Sheriff’s Office employees. The caller then says the person can pay a fine to avoid arrest. According to the sheriff’s department, no one from the Smith County Sheriff’s Office, or any other law enforcement agency, would collect fines by phone. The sheriff’s department is investigating the scam.
