AUSTIN — Governor Abbott has awarded half a million dollars in grants to better prepare Texas kids — including some East Texans — to be a part of the workforce of the future. The money goes to setting up STEM-based hands-on internships throughout the state. These are the first grants awarded though the governor’s Texas Talent Connection program. More than $5 million in TTC grants will be awarded this year. The first six grants are going to Workforce Solutions located in Kilgore, Dallas, Waco, McAllen, Sherman, and Abilene. Abbott awarded the big checks at Samsung Austin Semiconductor — One of the employers where these advanced skills are in demand.
