TYLER — The Tyler City Council Wednesday approved a $105,000 donation from the Smith County District Attorney’s Office to the Tyler Police Department to provide additional safety and operational equipment for officers. Police Chief Jimmy Toler says the equipment will include thermal imaging monoculars to help them find people at night and a mobile spectroscopy that will identify substances with minimum exposure to the officer. Toler says he’s thankful for the partnership with the DA’s office. The City Council also approved the purchase of 100 Lenovo in-car computers to be used in the Tyler Police and Fire Departments’ vehicles, replacing outdated equipment, according to a news release from the city.
