GREGG COUNTY — DPS troopers have arrested two people on several charges following a Friday afternoon incident in Gregg County. According to DPS Sgt. Jean Dark, a trooper saw a pickup traveling north on Sand Page Rd., and preliminary information indicates the vehicle was reported stolen from Gregg County. Dark says the trooper tried to stop the vehicle but that the driver evaded police. The pickup traveled north on Tryon Rd., and Dark says the driver disregarded a stop sign at the intersection of Tryon and U.S. 259, colliding with another vehicle. According to Dark, two suspects fled from the pickup, one brandishing a firearm.
Dark says troopers chased the suspects on foot until the armed suspect eventually threw down the weapon and gave up. The other suspect also gave up and both were taken into custody without incident, according to Dark. She says two stolen weapons, in addition to roughly $1,300 in other stolen property, were recovered. The driver and passenger in the other vehicle were treated and released at the scene. The suspects were taken to a Longview hospital for medical clearance before being jailed. The troopers were not injured.
Dark says the driver of the stolen vehicle was a 16-year-old and was taken to the Gregg County Juvenile Detention Center, charged with felony evading, theft of property, theft of firearm, and unauthorized use of a vehicle. The passenger in the stolen vehicle was taken to the Gregg County Jail and charged with evading on foot, theft of a firearm, tampering with evidence, and unlawful carrying of a weapon. Dark said the incident was under investigation and no additional information was immediately available.
