A Prison Sentence in a Fatal Longview Accident

LONGVIEW — A Kilgore man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison after pleading guilty to intoxication manslaughter. Thursday’s plea of Thomas Henkel, 34, was in connection with an accident last year that killed Lauren Elrod of Harleton. Police say his Range Rover was traveling east on loop 281 when he crossed over the center median and hit Elrod’s car head-on. She was ejected from the vehicle after it rolled, and was pronounced dead at the scene.
