Gregg County Man Charged With Assault on a Peace OfficerLONGVIEW – A Gregg County man is facing a variety of charges after fighting with, and trying to run away from, a Longview police officer. It started with a call about criminal trespass on Rainbow Drive. It ended with two fights, and two foot chases and the suspect, Jason Lee Jones, 37, of Gladewater, arrested on a variety of charges.

When officers first approached Jones, he was holding a glass pipe used to smoke methamphetamine. When they tried to arrest him, Jones ran away. When an officer caught him, Jones starting fighting and tried to take his Taser. He ran away again, but was caught again. In the fight that followed, the officer was hit twice in the head. Jones was finally taken into custody and found to be in possession of methamphetamine and alprazolam. Jones has been charged with assault on a peace officer, attempting to take a weapon from an officer, possession of controlled substance penalty group 1 and penalty group 3, evading on foot and resisting arrest. He also had a Gregg County warrant for burglary of a vehicle. Both Jones and the officer were treated at the hospital for minor injuries. Jones is in the Gregg County Jail under bonds totaling $82,000.
