Brookshire’s Warehouse Evacuated Following Chemical LeakTYLER — Twelve people went to local hospitals following an ammonia leak at Brookshire’s Warehouse in Tyler. The leak has since been contained. There were blockades of some of the roads in the area, but they have all been lifted. ETMC says all five patients seen there were released Friday morning; CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Hospital-Tyler says it has released all seven of its patients.

Brookshire’s released the following statement regarding the situation:

“Brookshire Grocery Co. today confirmed an ammonia leak has occurred and was quickly contained at the company’s distribution center at 1600 WSW Loop 323. The safety and well-being of our employees and the community are our highest priority,” said Ellen Reynolds, communications director for the company. We are working closely with the Tyler Fire, Police and Emergency First Responders to address the situation.”

It was determined that the leak occurred around 6:15 Friday morning at a refrigerated area of the warehouse. HAZMAT teams, Tyler Fire, Police and EMS responded and worked to notify residents and businesses in the area.
