Fatal Lufkin Hit and Run Probed

LUFKIN – A man has died at a Tyler hospital following a hit and run accident. Manuel Escobedo, 80, of Lufkin, was walking home Monday night when hit by a car on Martin Luther King Drive. He was taken to CHI St. Luke’s Health Memorial Lufkin and then flown to East Texas Medical Center in Tyler. Police say the car was driven by Shanna Ellison, 20, of Lufkin. Charges against Ellison are pending and the accident remains under investigation.

According to police reports, after the man was hit, Ellison fled the scene and was followed by a witness to Farm Road 2251. There, she wrecked out and hit a tree near Susie Street. The witness said Ellison drove erratically, reaching speeds of up to 120 mph. Ellison fled the scene of that accident on foot, abandoning her passengers, Uriah Davis, 20 and Davis’ infant daughter. They were uninjured in the crash.
