East Texas Tornado Response ContinuesCANTON — The American Red Cross continues to focus on mobile outreach and encourages anyone who has major damage due to the April 29 tornadoes to contact 1-866-505-4801. Red Cross mobile casework teams will be available to deliver client assistance cards and resources. Through Friday, May 12, a Red Cross representative will be present at the Van Zandt County Fairgrounds from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. At that time, the Red Cross will evaluate the need to man the site further, according to the agency’s Tammy Prater.

With the possibility (although slight) of severe weather Thursday, the Red Cross encourages residents, especially those who live in areas without a warning system to download the Red Cross’s free emergency apps to their Android or Apple mobile devices. Go to the Google Play or Apple stores or simply text “GETNADO” to 90999. Many residents, even those not physically touched by recent severe weather, have been impacted emotionally. To reach out for free 24/7 counseling or support, contact the Disaster Distress Helpline at 1-800-985-5990 or text “TalkWithUs” to 66746. Prater says the American Red Cross Serving East Texas will continue to support recovery for tornado victims in the days and weeks to come.
