Two Arrested in Athens on Drug Charges

ATHENS – A Henderson County sheriff’s deputy, who stopped to assist two motorists, ended up arresting them on drug charges. Deputy Tell Walker saw a dark-colored passenger car being pushed off Highway 31 into a downtown Athens parking lot around 5:00 Monday morning. When the couple appeared to be unsteady and intoxicated, he conducted a search of their vehicle. Two plastic baggies containing a white powdery substance under the driver’s and passenger’s seats. The field test kit determined the substance to be methamphetamine. Edgar Ismael Espino, 23, and Destiny Lanette Conner, 18, both of Athens, were charged with possession of a controlled substance.
