A Kilgore Student’s Sex Trafficking Trial is RescheduledLONGVIEW – The trial has been postponed for Kilgore College student who, along with three others, is charged with conspiracy to commit sex trafficking and with five counts of sex trafficking. Malik Antoine Brown, 19, of Brazoria, was scheduled for a pretrial hearing on April 27, with jury selection and trial at set for May 1. The Longview News Journal is reporting that the trial for Brown is now set for 9:00am on July 31 in federal court in Galveston, according to an order filed Tuesday in the Southern District of Texas. A pretrial conference is scheduled 9:30am on July 26.

Brown was arrested last November at a private dormitory in Kilgore. The judge set Brown’s bond at $50,000 before permitting his release under certain conditions. Brown, among other stipulations, must participate in a home confinement program that includes electronic monitoring, avoid contact with any victims, report on a regular basis to a pretrial service agent in Houston and stay away from places where minors are likely to visit.

Brown and three others are accused in the federal indictment of causing several girls between 14 and 18 years old to engage in commercial sex acts between March 1 and May 31, 2016, in the Southern District of Texas, which includes Brazoria County. The indictment lists five girls. All of the minors were identified by numbers, not names.

LONGVIEW – One man is hospitalized following a shooting in Longview. It was reported just before 5:00 Tuesday afternoon in the area of Dean Street and Twelfth Street. The man’s name has not been released and there is no word at this time on his condition. We’ll have more when the information becomes available.
