EAST TEXAS — 1700 new jobs appear on the way for East Texas. Sanderson Farms has tentatively selected sites located in Smith and Wood Counties for construction of a $200 million dollar feed mill, hatchery, poultry processing plant, and wastewater treatment facility. At full capacity, the complex will employ 1700 people, will require 80 contract growers, and will be equipped to process and sell 375 million pounds of dressed poultry meat annually. Construction will start this summer with initial operations of the new complex to begin during the first quarter of 2019. Further details on the project will be announced Monday morning.
