Tyler Library Benefits from the Great Books GiveawayTYLER – The staff of the Tyler Public Library have been quite busy. They unpacked more than 900 books and 140 audio books, a valuation of nearly $40,000 worth of materials. The collection includes fiction, nonfiction, graphic novels and Hi-Lo books (high interest, low reading level). The Tyler library was one of three libraries in the country to be awarded the Great Books Giveaway. It’s a program with the Young Adult Library Services Association in part of the American Library Association.

They started the application process last December. Youth Services Librarian Linda Gray stated in her application that the Library has a limited young adult collection, and that having more age-appropriate material would not only benefit active teenage library-users, but also programs that serve as outreach opportunities. Two of the programs that will benefit are part of the Tyler School District Discipline Alternative Education Program (DAEP) and the Early College program, a program for campuses lacking in popular reading material for students
