One in Custody Following Longview Standoff

LONGVIEW — Longview police say 25 year-old Idmar Rubio of Longview is in custody following a lengthy standoff Saturday. According to KETK, police received a call shortly after 6:30 Saturday morning about a domestic problem at a home on Diane Drive. Officers say when they arrived they saw Rubio point a weapon at a female from the front porch. They say he then ran into the house and refused to come out.

Police say nearby houses were evacuated as the standoff continued into the afternoon. Reporters say just before 2 o’clock, two officers in bulletproof vests, armed with rifles, entered nearby houses to evacuate neighbors in the area. After a warrant was issued for Rubio’s arrest, SWAT entered the home. Non-lethal chemical munitions were deployed into the home, and Rubio surrendered to police later in the afternoon. He was transported to the Gregg County and charged with aggravated assault with a weapon. His bond is at $250,000.
