Man Arrested after Car Gets Stuck in DitchLONGVIEW – A Carthage man whose car became stuck in a ditch Wednesday was arrested later after a Longview police officer reportedly discovered he had two stolen guns in the vehicle and that he was wanted on an aggravated assault charge. KETK reports Ravon Rashad Sewell, 27, was charged with two counts of theft of a firearm. He also was arrested on a Panola County warrant charging him with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Sewell remained in the Gregg County Jail with bond set at $6,000 for the gun charges. Bond was withheld on the Panola County warrant.

A Longview police lieutenant had been driving south on Tryon Road around 10 p.m. Wednesday when he saw Sewell’s car stuck in a ditch with its dome lights on, according to an arrest affidavit. Sewell was the only person in the car, and when the officer went to talk to Sewell, he smelled marijuana, the affidavit said. A check on Sewell’s name showed an aggravated assault warrant, and the lieutenant arrested Sewell. During a search of Sewell’s car, police say they found two handguns on the passenger side of the car. They were determined to have been stolen out of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Panola County, according to the affidavit. Police say they also found loose-leaf marijuana throughout the car, but the affidavit notes it was “not of a quantity for consumption.”
