East Texans Learn About the Homeless

Posted/updated on: November 18, 2016 at 4:01 pm

homelessTYLER – Starting Friday afternoon, The East Texas Human Needs Network is sponsoring, in Tyler, a “One Night Without a Home” event. It’s designed to increase awareness and understanding of hunger and homelessness. It starts with a meal at the Salvation Army homeless shelter. Then everyone will walk to Fun Forest Park for a program, the Face of Hunger and Homelessness. That will be followed by a candlelight vigil to honor those who have died while homeless. Despite a strong cold front coming in, participants will spend the night in the park. Christina Fulsom says the homeless don’t always have a place to go. Even communities with shelters are not always open to everyone, so, they will spend the night in the park. The next morning, everyone will walk back to the Salvation Army on North Broadway. You can go to http://www.ethnn.org/one-night-without-a-home.html to get more information and see how you can participate.
