Good Shepherd Healthcare Merger AnnouncedLONGVIEW – Another area health care merger has been announced. Good Shepherd Health System is merging with Christus Health. The announcement was made at a Monday afternoon news conference. No terms for the merger were disclosed. It is expected to close early next year. The Irving-based non-profit has other hospital operations in the region, including Tyler, and elsewhere in Texas. Steve Altmiller, president and CEO of the Longview-based Good Shepherd Health Care said they felt strongly that Christus Health is the best potential partner for his organization. He said that they plan to invest in the Longview and Marshall Market.

The announcement comes just over a month after Good Shepherd said a planned merger with Duke LifePoint Health System had fallen through. The memorandum of understanding to be acquired by Duke LifePoint expired on September 30. It was not announced why the deal was terminated. The Good Shepherd Board of Directors immediately began working with their financial advisors and resumed the search for an appropriate partner.
