Tidwell Named New UT Tyler PresidentAUSTIN – It is now official, the new President of the University of Texas at Tyler is Dr. Michael V. Tidwell. The U-T System Board of Regents approved the appointment at the board meeting Thursday. Tidwell had been named the lone finalist for the position last month. Tidwell, currently the dean of Eastern Michigan University’s College of Business, starts his new duties January 1st. He succeeds Dr. Rodney Mabry, who announced in February he would be retiring at the end of the year. He has been the school’s president nearly 18 years.

Tidwell has held a number of faculty appointments at colleges across the country and has also served as a visiting professor in India and Kenya. He currently leads more than 100 faculty members and 3,500 students at the Michigan university, where he has served since 2012. Tidwell served in the same position at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania, and was assistant dean at Clayton State University’s School of Business in Georgia, beginning in 2007.
