LONGVIEW – LeTourneau University is ranked among the top 100 private universities in the United States, among the 1,200 reviewed by Kiplinger’s list of Best College Values for 2016. LeTourneau University is ranked number 76 in Kiplinger’s list of Best Values in Private Colleges nationwide. In a news release, LETU President Dr. Dale A. Lunsford points out that the list is “topped by Ivy League schools like Princeton, Yale, and Harvard.†He notes that the only other Texas schools on the list were Rice, SMU, and San Antonio’s Trinity University.
Kiplinger’s rankings considered competitiveness, graduation rates, academic support (including freshmen retention rate—the percentage of freshmen students who return for their sophomore year), and cost and financial aid. Kiplinger’s only measured four-year graduation rates, which penalizes schools with students who don’t complete their degrees within four years. The list ranked schools using cost and financial aid measures with quality attributed for 55% and cost accounting for 45% of the ranking score. Because private schools generally offer more financial aid and have higher graduation rates than public schools, many private schools are found at the top of the list, according to the news release.
