Toler Sworn In as Tyler Police Chief

TYLER — Tyler now officially has a new police chief following the recent retirement of Gary Swindle. Jimmy Toler, a 22-year veteran of the Tyler Police Department, was sworn in Friday afternoon. Toler’s worked within the Patrol, Investigations, and Administrative Divisions of the department. He has held the ranks of Sergeant, Lieutenant and Assistant Chief of Police. Among other things, Toler performed analysis for building a South Sub-station that received the approval of the Tyler City Council. He remains a member of the City of Tyler Performance Excellence Program and continues to work to implement strategic planning principles and best practices throughout the organization, according to a news release.
